simbang gabi

Today, December 16 is the official start of the Pinoy Christmas season. It starts with the simbang gabi and ends with the feast of the three kings on January 6.

Simbang gabi has been a tradition of Filipino Christians since i could remember. Families and Friends troop to church at wee hours of the morning not only for mass but for puto bumbong, bibingka and get togethers. It is also believed that when one completes the simbang gabi (9 days), his wishes will be granted. Hmmm, i wonder, what are the top 3 "hiling" of the Pinoys?

Anyways, I found this at inq7.net and thought that it might be an interesting read on simbang gabi...

It seems that the origin of simbang gabi is rooted with the masses. According to the inquirer article the simbang gabi is really for farmers and the agricultural sector, a recognition of the agrarian moorings of much of the Philippines.

Who will you take with you to the simbang gabi?
