the count down begins

"Officially" christmas in the Philippines starts on December 16, which is the start of the simbang gabi. Unofficially, it starts right after all saint's day, when the malls put up the xmas decors and start playing xmas tunes to entice shoppers to buy the presents early. Even the TV networks get into the act and start with their own version of the Christmas countdown during those news programs. Only in the Philippines where you can see news reporting with a touch of commercialism!

Tomorrow is the 1st of December, which means that it's 24 days before Christmas, 31 days before the New Year and only 17 days before the offical start of xmas vacation, parties, traffic, shopping and all the food you can eat.
